Skin Cancer after a Kidney transplant has been a common problem occurring to Transplant patients. After Learning a lot from Doctors, patients and the internet, It is scary to know that we are 5 times more likely to get Skin cancer than normal people.

The reason being that patients who have high level of Tregulatory cells and low-level of Natural killer Cells, are more likely to get Skin cancer. This is all technical stuff, but one of the key reason being the intake of immunosuppressive drugs to prevent rejection. Well, kidney patients have no options other than taking these drugs.

Information indicates that about 30% of transplant patients are affected after 10 years of taking immunosuppressive drugs.Researchers are doing some tests that in the future there patients can have special tests, and if they more likely than other patients, to get skin cancer, then the drugs could be tailored or controlled at early stages itself. Well, that is some good hope.

Well, where there is a problem, so is a solution. We can use sun creams to protect from the hot and blazing sun.(Well, if we get some nice summer in Britain). But of course, when on holiday in britain or out, we have to take care of our skin and body. Sniffing around the internet found this article that mentions best sun cream. You can view it at The Sun.

But personally speaking, I am using Nivea Sun 50+ UVA UVB water-resistant and am happy so far. It’s a personal choice, you can use what you desire or what your pocket allows, it should be effective and do the job.

With the right precaution of what ever can be taken, i am sure that skin cancer can be avoided or delayed if it does occur in every kidney transplant patient. But i am sure everyone does not have or develop sensitive skin to get skin cancer. Yes avoiding excessive direct sunlight could help with sun cream and sun glasses could help.

Good Luck with Skin protection.

I love to share my knowledge.
